In addition to these competitive salaries, the residency programs of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine-Tulsa offer the very attractive package of benefits outlined below.

Professional Liability Coverage:

Residents are provided with comprehensive professional liability coverage (limits = $100,000/$300,000) during the performance of contractual duties.

Vacation:

Residents are provided fifteen week days (M-F) of vacation leave per year.

Professional Leave:

Residents are encouraged to attend professional meetings. Allowances may be available at the discretion of the program director.

Sick Leave:

Sick leave accrues at the rate of 1 1/4 days per month to a maximum of fifteen working week days per year.

Core Insurance and Optional Coverage:

The University of Oklahoma offers a flexible benefits plan authorized by Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code. Each month, eligible employees receive an allowance of benefits credits (Sooner Credits). These credits represent the amount of money the University pays to provide benefits eligible employees with the following core insurance benefits:

  • Health Insurance
  • Basic Dental Plan
  • Life insurance (1.5 times annual base pay)
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance ($20,000 policy)
  • Long-Term Disability

In addition to the University provided core insurance benefits, employees and their dependents have the option to participate in other University sponsored benefits available at the employee's cost. These include:

  • Dependent Health Care
  • Dependent Dental
  • Dependent Life Insurance
  • Additional Employee Life Insurance
  • Dependent AD&D Insurance
  • Additional Employee AD&D Insurance

Additional Benefits:

  • Pagers provided at no expense.
  • Memberships in appropriate local, state and national associations.
  • University of Oklahoma athletic and other event tickets at student prices.
  • Membership in the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union (savings and loan payments may be made regularly through a payroll deduction system).
  • Payment of moving expenses (up to $700 with department approval).
  • Free checking at some area banks.

Family Leave Policies  

Family Leave Guidelines

After one year of University employment, qualified employees may take up to 12 weeks of leave (available paid leave and then unpaid leave) during any 12 month period for (1) the birth of a child; (2) the placement of a child for adoption or foster care; (3) the care of a spouse, parent, or child with a serious health condition; or (4) a serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform the employee’s job functions. Resident Family Leave Policy

Depending on specialty board requirements, periods of family leave may extend the length of the residency training needed to meet specialty board requirements.

Maternity Leave

Available sick leave, vacation time, or leave without pay may be used in accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act guidelines as described above. Specific questions should be addressed to Human Resources. Requests for leave should be made in writing to your Program Director as soon as the need is known.

Paternity Leave

Available vacation time, or leave without pay may be used in accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act guidelines as described above. Specific questions should be addressed to Human Resources. Sick leave is not to be used for this purpose. Requests for leave should be made in writing to your Program Director as soon as the need is known.

Requests for Family and Medical Leave

Residency program schedule changes require considerable planning to ensure that patient care and your residency colleagues’ educations are not impacted negatively. Therefore, requests for leave should be made in writing to your Program Director as soon as the need is known.
