Welcome to the Oklahoma University Physician Assistant Program-Tulsa Web page. We appreciate your interest and hope you will find these pages of information useful to you on your journey toward becoming a physician assistant.
OU-Tulsa’s formerly named College of Medicine has now become the first formally named School of Community Medicine in the nation. OU-Tulsa PA program is located within the School of Community Medicine. The primary goal of the OU School of Community Medicine and the OU-Tulsa PA program is to actively improve the health status of rural and underserved communities.
With this focus, the OU-Tulsa PA program’s curriculum has special emphasis on meeting the needs of the underserved populations and those at risk in the state. Our program is thirty months in length, starting early June each year. The first fifteen months of didactic phase of our program consists of classroom and laboratory instruction in basic medical and behavioral sciences. Course instructions include anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, clinical medicine and physical diagnosis. The second and third year or clinical phase focuses on applying the learned material in the clinical setting. Clinical instruction is given by preceptors, typically physicians, PAs, NPs, who are dedicated to enhancing PA education. Typical clinical rotations a student experiences are Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry and Underserved Medicine.
Open enrollment will be June 1, 2008 to October 1, 2008 for class of 2011.
