Thank you for your interest in the combined Family Practice-Psychiatry Residency Training program at The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, Tulsa. This combined program provides the opportunity to complete training and be board-eligible in Family Practice and Psychiatry after completing the five-year program.
Physicians trained in both specialties have unique skills that can be used in an academic setting, private practice and in rural areas where psychiatrists are in short supply. We have included a survey article on where physicians trained in both specialties are working. This survey targeted physicians who completed dual training in sequence rather than in combined programs. However, the results are pertinent to those thinking about starting a combined program.
The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa campus combined program has been operational for over ten years. We think this is an outstanding and developing program. Along with the materials describing the Department of Family Practice and the Department of Psychiatry, we have included a typical rotation schedule for residents in the combined program. We hope this will give you some idea of the training sequence and how the 30 months assigned to each Department is coordinated.
Again, thank you for your interest in this combined residency. Feel free to call or write if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Ondria Gleason, MD; Monty Cavanagh, MD; Michael Sannito, PhD
